John was voted Most Valuable Player in 1974, but it is completely impossible to talk about him without also speaking about his second row partner, Roger Hamilton. Facing either one of them in the lineout or the scrum had to be scary enough for an opponent. Facing both at the same time had to be living terror. It is rumored that most of the pigs roasted at those first alumni game cookouts, were killed while the small neighbor children watched with a ball-peen hammer in Roger’s backyard.
