Fred Ackermann, another player with the label of “star” prior to his arrival, Fred learned his rugby in South Africa and is one of only two players to start their BGSU career as a member of the 1st XV. Running out of the eight man spot, Fred is fourteenth on the career try list with 65 and nineteenth on the career scoring list with 333 points. He joins prop Mike Harrington and eight man Jeff McVey as the only forwards on two lists overwhelmingly dominated by backs. He was voted Rookie of the Year in 2002, Most Valuable Player in 2004 and the Bone Crusher Award in 2005 as the club’s best defender.
